Hungrrr vs Flipdish: Which Restaurant Ordering Platform Is Better?
The Short Answer
For most restaurants, Flipdish. Hungrrr is mainly about branded ordering apps and websites. Flipdish does that too, then adds a POS, kiosks, AI phone ordering, payments and loyalty on top. If you'd rather run the restaurant off one system than four, that's what decides it.
Hungrrr isn't a bad product. It's a narrower one.
What Is Hungrrr?
Hungrrr is a UK online ordering platform for independent restaurants, takeaways and small chains. You get white-label apps for iOS and Android with your branding on them, a web ordering system, and some basic marketing tools.
The pitch is simple: have your own ordering channel so you're not handing every order to Just Eat or Deliveroo. Plenty of UK independents use it for exactly that, mostly because it's a cheap way to get started with direct ordering.
It doesn't come with a POS. There are no kiosks, no AI phone handling and no proper CRM. It takes orders. What happens to those orders once they land is someone else's job - usually yours, or whichever POS company you're paying separately.
What Is Flipdish?
Flipdish covers pretty much everything between a customer placing an order and the kitchen cooking it. Restaurants, cafés, QSRs and multi-site groups use it in the UK, Ireland and further afield. The product list:
- Restaurant POS for running orders in the restaurant
- Online ordering - branded websites and web ordering
- Branded mobile apps for iOS and Android
- Self-service kiosks for counter service
- AI phone ordering, which answers inbound calls and takes the order
- Integrated payments
- Customer loyalty and CRM
- Kitchen Display System
- Delivery management
All of these share the same data. One menu, one set of customer records, one sales report. Not a pile of separate tools that each know a bit about your business and never talk to each other.

Where They Actually Differ
How much of the restaurant each one covers
Hungrrr does online ordering through branded apps and websites, and it does it well. That's useful. It's also one piece of running a restaurant.
Think about Friday at 7pm. With Flipdish, an online order goes straight into the POS and shows up on the kitchen display next to the dine-in tickets. Nobody's watching a separate tablet on the end of the counter. Nobody's retyping an order into the till while the phone rings. If you run kiosks as well, those orders join the same queue, so the kitchen sees one stream of work and doesn't care whether a burger came from the app, the counter or a kiosk.
With a standalone ordering tool you're usually managing at least two queues and hoping they line up.
POS
Hungrrr doesn't have its own POS. If you want it working with your till, you need a separate POS and an integration connecting the two. That integration often costs extra every month. It can also stop syncing, and when it does, your sales data has holes in it until somebody notices.
Flipdish built its own POS, so there's nothing to integrate. Change a price once and it changes on the website, the app, the kiosk and the till. At the end of the night the sales from every channel are already in one place. Nobody sits down with two reports and a calculator.
For a lot of operators this is the part that matters most. Menu drift - the app still selling the dish you took off last Tuesday - is a real headache, and it's mostly a side effect of running two systems that are supposed to agree with each other.
Kiosks
Hungrrr doesn't do kiosks. If you run counter service and want kiosks to shorten the queue and push up average order value, you'll need another supplier.
Flipdish's self-service kiosks plug into the same POS and kitchen display as everything else. A kiosk order lands in the kitchen queue the same way a counter order does.
Kiosks suit some places far more than others. A lunchtime burger spot with a queue out the door? Yes. A 30-cover restaurant with table service? Probably not.
Phone orders
Lots of takeaways still get a big share of their orders by phone. Anyone who's worked a busy shift knows how this goes: the phone rings while everyone's flat out, nobody gets to it, and that customer rings the place down the road instead.
Hungrrr has nothing for this. Flipdish's AI phone agent answers inbound calls and takes the order automatically, so calls don't get missed when the counter is three deep.
Payments
Hungrrr doesn't have native payments, so card processing comes from a third party. That's one more contract, one more statement to reconcile, and one more place to look when a refund goes missing.
Flipdish has integrated payments. Online, kiosk and in-store payments go through the same system as the orders, which makes end-of-day a lot less tedious. If a customer rings up saying they were charged twice, there's one place to check.
Loyalty and customer data
Hungrrr has basic promotional tools. Flipdish has a full CRM with customer segmentation, push notifications, automated email campaigns and a loyalty programme you can set up the way you want.
In practice that means you can see who's stopped ordering. Say a customer ordered every fortnight and hasn't been back in two months. You can send that person an offer, instead of firing the same 10% discount at everyone - including the regulars who were going to order anyway.
The longer you run it, the more this counts. Every direct order adds to your own customer data. Marketplace orders mostly add to the marketplace's. A restaurant that uses its own purchase data to send relevant offers will hang on to more customers than one that lives on platform discounts.
Running more than one site
Hungrrr is fine for one site. Add a second or third and the gaps show up quickly: no POS to tie the channels together, shallow reporting, and no central way to control menus and pricing across locations.
Flipdish was built with groups in mind. Menus, pricing, promotions and reporting can all be managed across dozens of locations from one back office. Its customers include independent chains and big franchised brands.
If you're a single site with no plans for another, skip this bit. If you're already thinking about site two, don't.
Who Each Platform Suits
Hungrrr can work if you're:
- a very small independent that only needs a branded app and web ordering
- happy with your current POS and just want a low-cost ordering add-on
- not planning to grow soon, with fairly basic ordering needs
Flipdish makes more sense for:
- restaurants that want POS, ordering and customer marketing in one system
- takeaways that take a lot of phone orders
- counter-service places looking at kiosks
- growing restaurants and chains that need the same setup at every site
- anyone tired of pulling numbers from three dashboards to work out how last week went
Pricing
Neither company publishes full pricing. Flipdish's price depends on which modules you take.
Comparing Hungrrr's fee with Flipdish's fee is the wrong comparison anyway. The real one is Hungrrr plus a POS, plus maybe a kiosk system, plus maybe a loyalty tool - each with its own monthly bill and its own integration - against one Flipdish subscription that covers the lot. For most restaurants, one platform works out cheaper than four.
When you're getting quotes, price the whole setup, not just the ordering part. Ask your POS provider what the Hungrrr integration costs per month and who fixes it when it breaks. Those are the numbers that tend to get left off the first quote.
Making the Switch
Restaurants that move from Hungrrr, or a similar ordering-only platform, to Flipdish tend to notice two things early on. They stop juggling separate systems. And their data becomes useful again, because every order goes through the same place.
That means you can see which channels are growing, whether the loyalty programme is actually bringing people back, and which dishes sell on the app compared with at the counter. No stitching reports together on a Monday morning.
Before you switch, a few things are worth sorting out. Check how long you're tied into your current contracts, including any separate POS or payments deal. Get your menu into a clean state, because you'll be setting it up once and it's easier to fix it now than after it's live on four channels. And tell your regulars when the new app is coming, so they aren't confused when the old one stops working.
